Development Academy vs. Competitive Academy Teams

What is the difference between Development Academy & Competitive Academy Teams (Player Pools)?

  • CSC DEVELOPMENT ACADEMY is offered for U5-U10 age groups as a once weekly skill development program for individual players. Offered in 6 week increments, one night per week for one hour, with one play date at the conclusion of the program.  Any skill level can register at any time for this program.  Player can be selected to move into a competitive academy team through an evaluation process on a year round basis in this Development academy.

  • COMPETITIVE ACADEMY TEAMS (Player Pools) is the first step into the competitive/travel level of the Clarksville Soccer Club.  See the next FAQ (below) for further information about these.

The TN soccer association mandates that youngest age of players that can play competitive/travel soccer against outside opponents for the 2019-2020 season is 2012 birth year.  The 2012 group does not really travel during this first initial year.   In an effort to keep costs down and focus on developing the pool of players to be competitively ready,  we operate our U8's (2012) as mostly an "in house" with competitions  so there is minimal travel involved.  We introduce travel to play outside competition more regularly at U9.  Clarksville Soccer Club does offer pre-travel transition for select 2013 players based on evaluations through our Development Academy  where they can be invited to train up with our 2012 age group and prepare them for the next season.

  • We have licensed, paid coaches who train and coach the players in all practices and games.
  • We also have parent assistants who receive coaching education and grass roots licensing who assist with the Academy age groups.
  • The season runs from August-May (2019-2020).

What are "Select/Travel Academy Pool Teams?"

  • Clarksville Soccer Club forms "COMPETITIVE ACADEMY TEAMS (Player Pools)" beginning at the U8 (2012) age group.
  • Evaluations/Try-Outs are required to be considered for selection to COMPETITIVE ACADEMY TEAMS (Player Pools)."
  • Evaluations/Try-Outs for these teams are available on a year-round basis by contacting the CSC Academy Director, Kelley Guth.
  • After evaluations/try-outs, selected players will be invited to join a specific "COMPETITIVE ACADEMY TEAMS (Player Pools)"  team.

Players who require further development are referred to our CSC DEVELOPMENT ACADEMY and undergo continued training and evaluation.
